In its efforts to stem software piracy, Microsoft has added a number of security features to Windows Vista which would cripple the operating system until it has been validated. Some examples include: disabling the Aero user interface, disabling ReadyBoost, disabling Windows Defender and a watermark on the desktop. Many Windows users have reported problems with the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program. Experts believe as high as 42% of copies of Windows deemed not genuine by WGA were in fact geniune.
