CNN.com - More of your information than you think might be online - Jun 13, 2006
It's old news now that identity fraud is on the rise. Every other day you hear how another database, containing names, social security and other personal info, has been compromised. Usually, it involves an employee who saved the information onto a computer notebook or other portable media and the labtop was later stolen. Though both federal and local governments have tried to stem the rise of identity theft, it is just not enough. The Internet is probably the biggest offender. Any hacker can surf the Internet and cull personal information that can be later used for fraud.
